תשובות לתרגול
- plays
Answer: plays. Routine (every weekend) → present simple, with -s for he: plays.
- were having
Answer: were having. A longer action in progress (past progressive) is interrupted by a short one (past simple).
- melts
Answer: melts. A general fact uses the zero conditional: if + present, present.
- was built
Answer: was built. A finished past date with the doer after 'by' → past simple passive: was built.
- had seen
Answer: had seen. In reported speech the present perfect ('I have seen') moves back to the past perfect: had seen.
- were
Answer: were. 'I wish' about the present takes a past form; in careful English we use 'were' for all persons.
- which
Answer: which. In a non-defining clause (between commas) for a thing, we use 'which', not 'that'.
- reconsidered
Answer: reconsidered. 'It's high time' + subject is followed by a past form with present meaning: reconsidered.
- has planted / had not done
Answer: has planted / had not done. 'Since 2015' up to now → present perfect (has planted). The second sentence imagines a different past with a present result (mixed conditional): if + past perfect (had not done), would + verb now.
- Noa said that she would finish the project the next day.
Answer: Noa said that she would finish the project the next day.. Three changes are needed: the pronoun (I → she), the tense (will → would) and the time word, because 'tomorrow' has already passed (tomorrow → the next day).
